Jessie N. Dixon, Director of Orchestras

 

Ms. Jessie Dixon is in her fourteenth year of teaching Orchestral music and seventh year teaching Orchestra at Ridgeview. A product of the Fulton County School system (Alum of both Ridgeview Charter Middle School and Riverwood High School), she started taking viola performance seriously in the 8th grade, eventually earning positions with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Talent Development Program, and Fulton County Middle and High School Honor Orchestras.

Ms. Dixon received her Bachelor's Degree of Music Education from The University of Miami, and her Master's of Music Education Boston University. Ms. Dixon began teaching middle school Orchestra in 2007 and has accomplished musical success with her orchestras. Ms. Dixon has taught in Fulton County Schools and in the Duval County School System in Jacksonville, FL. She and her orchestras have attended the Georgia and Florida Music Educators’ Association’s Large Group Performance Evaluations since 2007, receiving Superior ratings for twelve consecutive years, and has had students participate in Georgia and Florida All-State Middle School Orchestras, district honor orchestras and Solo and Ensembles, with superior results and high representation of excellence.

As 2016-2017 Ridgeview Charter's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Dixon, believes in the importance of music education in the Ridgeview and Sandy Springs communities. 

She believes music education should be readily available, accessible and enjoyable for all students no matter their personal circumstances and situations.

In her spare time, Ms. Dixon loves to perform, and is an avid concert goer. She is a member of the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra, and currently performs in the music ensemble East West Strings. She loves sports (especially football) knitting, reading, and keeping healthy and fit.
